Yezdi Is Coming! Mahindra Confirms Launching Premium Motorcycles In India.
A lot many motorcyclists in India will teary-eyed to find out that Jawa motorcycles will soon make a comeback in the country. Many of us have grown up with one parked under our porch, or have memories of our father or grandfather riding one. Mahindra & Mahindra is now in ownership of Jawa and BSA motorcycles, which means the Yezdi is back!
Yezdi bikes were sold in India from 1960s till 1990s and have achieved cult status among Indian motorcycle enthusiasts. The bikes were manufactured by Ideal Jawa under licence from JAWA Moto, the Czech bike maker. Recently, the Czech bike maker launched the Jawa 350 single-cylinder motorcycle in Czech Republic. We can expect Mahindra to locally manufacture this bike in India and launch it as a classic/vintage bike. The Jawa 350 is powered by a single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that produces 27 BHP of maximum power and 30.6 Nm of peak torque. We expect Mahindra to showcase prototypes of these bikes in India at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo while launch might take place in 2019.
Mahindra is realigning its structure when it comes to the two-wheeler business and this is seen by the fact that there are three distinct companies it’s been divided into – Peugeot Motorcycles, Mahindra Two Wheelers Limited and Classic Legends Private Limited and this is to help the company gain ground in the niche two wheeler markets. What remains to be seen though is how this strategy works for Mahindra and the next few years will be crucial for the company as its plans unfold.
